In a statement introducing details about the 2014 GMC Sierra
Denali, a luxury version of the redesigned 2014 Sierra full-size pickup truck,
General Motors revealed horsepower and torque ratings for the optional Ecotec3
6.2-liter V-8 engine that will be offered in the new 2014 GMC Sierra and its
2014 Chevy Silverado twin beginning in the fall of 2013.
General Motors estimates that the new 6.2-liter V-8 will
generate 420 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque, providing a maximum tow
rating of 12,000 pounds when the Sierra and Silverado are properly configured.
That means the new 6.2-liter V-8 offers "the most power and torque of any
light-duty truck engine," according to General Motors. Official
SAE-certified numbers will be available later in the year.
In addition to the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the new Silverado and Sierra will be available with a new 285-horsepower, 4.3-liter V-6 engine or a new 355-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 engine. All three power plants are more powerful than the engines they replace, provide greater towing capacity, and have direct fuel injection and Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation to increase gas mileage. The first of the redesigned 2014 Silverado and 2014 Sierra models goes on sale in June of 2013.
