Chevrolet has announced official 2014 Silverado horsepower
and torque engine ratings, maximum towing capacity ratings, and pricing for its
redesigned full-size pickup truck.
Equipped with a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail
Price (MSRP) of $24,585 (including a $995 shipping charge), the 2014 Chevrolet
Silverado regular cab's price is identical to the 2013 model. The new 2014
Silverado Double Cab is $28,610, priced the same as the outgoing extended cab
model, and this approach is true for the redesigned 2014 Silverado Crew Cab,
which starts at $32,710. The prices include a free scheduled maintenance
program covering the truck for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of ownership,
whichever elapses first.
The 2014 Chevy Silverado will be offered with a standard 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V-6 engine and a new 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8, each paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet expects 75% of new Silverado models to have its all-new 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 engine installed under the truck's hood.
According to Chevrolet, the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 is SAE-certified to generate 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, 40 horsepower and 48 lb.-ft. of torque more than the engine it replaces. More than 300 lb.-ft. of torque is available between 2,000 rpm and 5,600 rpm, Chevy says.
When properly configured, a Silverado Double Cab with 2-wheel drive will be able to tow as much as 11,500 pounds. The new Silverado 1500's maximum payload capacity, depending on model and powertrain, is 2,102 pounds.
Additionally, Chevrolet says the new 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 will return 23 mpg on the highway with 2-wheel drive, and 22 mpg on the highway with 4-wheel drive. Regardless of drivetrain selection, the city fuel-economy rating is estimated at 16 mpg. All three of the 2014 Silverado's new engines are equipped with direct fuel injection and Active Fuel Management (AFM) technology. The AFM system allows the engine to operate on four cylinders under low-load driving conditions to help conserve fuel.
The redesigned 2014 GMC Sierra shares the Silverado's power, towing and fuel-economy ratings, but starts at $25,085, exactly $500 more than the Chevrolet. Power ratings, towing ratings, and fuel-economy ratings for the 2014 Silverado's and 2014 Sierra's new V-6 and 6.2-liter V-8 engines will be available at a later date.
