5 Fast Facts About the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Chevrolet Silverado
A redesigned 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 is arriving in showrooms just in time for summer, and in advance of its previously scheduled on-sale date, Chevrolet dealers around the country are making any remaining 2013 Silverado 1500 models very appealing to truck buyers seeking a great deal.
Here are 5 things you may want to know about the outgoing version of the Silverado before shopping for a large pickup:

1) The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers variety. Whether you need a simple work truck or want a luxurious family, cargo, and trailer hauler, there is a Silverado that can deliver. Buyers can choose between regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab styles with a short, standard, or long cargo box and rear-wheel or 4-wheel drive. Trim levels range from the basic WT (Work Truck) to the luxurious LTZ, with LS and LT models in between.

2) The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado is the only pickup truck offered with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain (excluding the GMC Sierra). The 2-mode hybrid powertrain pairs a 332-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 engine with Active Fuel Management technology to a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack and an electrically variable transmission. The Silverado Hybrid can travel at speeds up to 30 mph on electricity alone, is estimated by the EPA to get 21 mpg in combined driving, and is rated to tow 6,100 pounds or carry up to 1,527 pounds of payload.

3) The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is equipped with standard stability control, trailer sway control, hill-start assist, and powertrain grade braking, which Chevy says can reduce brake rotor temperatures by 100 degrees when descending long downhill grades. All models equipped with an automatic transmission also have a Tow/Haul mode, and an integrated trailer brake controller is optional for the Silverado 1500. Maximum trailering capacity is 10,700 pounds, when equipped with the optional Max Trailering package and its 403-horsepower, 6.2-liter V-8 engine.

4) Chevy offers a Z71 off-road suspension package for the 2013 Silverado 1500, which turns the truck into a more capable vehicle off-road. The package adds gas-charged front and rear shock absorbers, larger front stabilizer bar, off-road jounce bumpers, underbody skid plates, high-capacity air cleaner, and front recovery hooks. Models with this package also have unique 18-inch aluminum wheels with on/off-road tires and Z71 decals.

5) Every 2013 Chevy Silverado is equipped with an OnStar telematics system, which includes 6 free months of Directions and Connections service. An Automatic Crash Response service activates if the truck's air bags deploy, putting a live operator in touch with the Silverado's occupants. Even if nobody inside the truck can respond to the operator, he or she can dispatch rescue personnel to the Silverado's exact location to speed assistance. Additionally, OnStar is offered with a new, opt-in FamilyLink service that allows the truck's owners to check the truck's location remotely or to receive vehicle location alerts.
